Don't Just Think Green, Go Green
If you haven't gotten on the "Think Green" wagon, you will. As larger corporations establish their "Green" policies, they will eventually force all of their partners including their suppliers to do the same - the trickle down affect. All is not lost! Just be the smart business person that you are and focus on how you can change or improve some of your business procedures to save time & money. One of the quickest & easiest ways is to integrate more technology into your business techniques. Going green doesn't have to cost you extra. Using your best practices and utilizing your current technology to its fullest potential can point you in the right direction. That doesn't necessarily mean buy more technology but expand the usage of the technology you already have.
Recycle:
Lots of costly office supplies can be reused, saving you money and bolstering your bottom line! You can purchase recycled printer toner cartridges & recycle your used ones. Use the "back" side of previously used print paper for inter-office note pads; shred junk mail to use as packing materials for shipping items. Companies such as Applied Laser Technologies (ALT) do recycle toner cartridges that you buy from them. Ask your printer supplier if they recycle their cartridges. If they don't recycle, ask them to start.
Keep electronics out of the trash:
Keep your cell phones, computers, and other electronics as long as possible. Donate or recycle them responsibly when the time comes. E-waste contains mercury and other toxics and is a growing environmental problem. When needing to recycle electronics contact I-Tran Inc.
Electronic newsletters.
Don't print that newsletter and pass it out with the paychecks. Create a .pdf file and email it to your employees instead. It not only helps save the environment, but it also makes it easier to share.
Turn off equipment not in use
Turn off your computers at night. Any equipment that is not being used should be turned off. Keep in mind that if you use remote access, then you will need to leave the device on that you are remoting into (i.e. a desktop or server).
e-Lectricity - Shutting Off The Lights
Limiting your usage of your office lights; turning the lights off when you leave for an extended period of time (ie: lunch); shutting down some of your equipment like copiers, desktops and even water coolers with hot water dispensers will add up.
